Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD): brain damage from prenatal alcohol exposure. At least 1 out of 100 children are born with FASD. Autism claims 1 out of 150. Money, publicity, and compassion reach out to its vicitms, and yet there is no known cause. FASD claims more victims. However, there is little publicity. Journalists and the media shy away from publizing FASD and its effect that include serious learning and self-regulatory problems, medical and behavioral problems that cost the family and society at least $2 million per individual over his/her lifetime, filling the caseloads of social workers, therapists, doctors, lawyers, and filling our jails. You can help: read research by Dr. Ann Streisguth, attend the 9-0 Conference September 7, 2007, join with the Santa Clara County FASD Task Force to spread the word about FASD.
